"Valehona" is a metroid-vania game that I work on In my free time and "Valehona Tap!" is my clicker game I published on to the play store!
This is a concept game for a noir detective story, created using Unreal Engine 4. I developed a 2.5D environment and characters to achieve a specific aesthetic with cel-shaded, gloomy visuals.
I studied a Creative Media Production Level 3 Extended Diploma in Game Development at Access Creative College Norwich.
A collection of my other endeavours, artworks and assets created in my spare time for fun and projects.
This work-in-progress Metroidvania project, inspired by Hollow Knight, Dead Cells, and Blasphemous, is being developed in Unity. It features intriguing world-building and challenging combat. My primary goal is to create an incredible user experience that makes players feel good when they play. The game will include boss battles with specific patterns and puzzles to defeat them. Currently, I am focusing on combat mechanics and feedback, such as implementing a screen shake effect when the player takes damage. This feedback is crucial as it signals to the player what to avoid and conveys the impact and weight of an attack. I will update this portfolio as I progress through this project.
Valehona Tap! is my clicker game where you slay "goons" and progress through upgrades to become a stronger goon slayer! This is an android game I released on the google play store in 2021. This two-week project yielded results I'm proud of. The most challenging aspect was the save system, which optimizes performance by saving at intervals instead of every tick, ensuring players don't lose progress. Despite its small scale, the project helped me understand game development fundamentals and the publishing process.
I studied Creative Media Production Level 3 Extended Diploma in Game Development at Access Creative College Norwich, where I learned the fundamentals of game art, development, and design. We had several assignments involving 3D modelling, texturing, and mapping using Autodesk Maya. One assignment required creating a 2D game animation, for which I turned my tutors into pixel characters. Although I primarily learned Unreal Engine 4 during my time at the college, after graduating with a triple distinction, I decided to teach myself Unity.
After finishing college, I aimed to master both Unreal Engine and Unity through practical experience. I created a company with a brand and logo that I was proud of and led a small team to work on fun, small-scale projects rather than for commercial gain. Our first project was "Jackson Jones," a noir-style detective game developed in Unreal Engine 4. We focused heavily on shaders and style, and the outcome exceeded our expectations. However, I found Unreal Engine challenging due to its primary focus on 3D over 2D. I then started a new project called "Valehona" and its companion, "Valehona Tap!" "Valehona" is a pixel Metroidvania game developed in Unity, which I continue to work on. Through this project, I taught myself C#. Using the assets from "Valehona," I created a tap game for Google Play, "Valehona Tap!" This provided valuable experience in mobile game development.
Hi, I'm Bradley, though some people call me "Bread," a nickname I got in high school. From childhood to my teenage years, I've always had a passion for video games—not just playing them, but appreciating their detail, style, and scale.
In high school, I took computer science and art, the two subjects I enjoyed most. I was so interested in them that I often stayed after school to work on game design with a friend. This experience inspired me to pursue a career in game development, leading me to study Game Development later in college.
Of course, pursuing a career in game development means I have a passion for playing games too! My favorite childhood game was "Ape Escape," and later, I fell in love with the "Borderlands" franchise, especially the second game. Currently, I'm thoroughly enjoying "Baldur's Gate 3."
In addition to gaming, I enjoy drawing both digitally and with pencil, a hobby influenced by my mother. I also love building PCs and exploring new innovative technologies like VR and AR. To balance out all the office work, I make sure to stay fit by going to the gym and hiking in the mountains with my partner when we get the chance.
